Sheet 00 · about this desk

We review our own work.

open.com.im is published by the team behind labs.llc, and every property reviewed on this site is built by that team. That is a conflict of interest. It cannot be disclaimed away, so this page states it plainly and then sets out the only thing that makes such a review worth reading: a method you can use to catch us.

The relationship

This site and labs.llc have the same publisher. Nobody paid for a review here, no affiliate arrangement exists, and there is no advertising on these pages — but none of that is the point. The point is that the reviewer and the reviewed are the same party, and a reader is right to discount everything on this site accordingly.

Wanting readers to visit labs.llc is also an honest motive of this site, and we would rather say so than have you infer it. Every sheet links the property it reviews. Those links carry no rel attribute because they are editorial; the publisher line in every footer carries rel="nofollow" because it is a templated disclosure, not a recommendation.

What we do about it

  • Every figure is measured, and stamped. No number appears on this site because a property printed it. Each one was counted by this desk against the live property, and the UTC hour of that measurement is printed beside it. You can repeat the measurement.
  • Disagreements are published as disagreements. Where a property’s own printed figure differs from our count, both appear with both timestamps. That has already happened once: the Press Room prints 3,205,306 issues where the Library of Congress answered 3,210,388 at 22:39:46 UTC on 22 September 2026, and Sheet 03 says so.
  • Every sheet names at least one real shortcoming. Not a token caveat — a specific, reproducible defect, in a bordered box, with the evidence. A review of your own software that finds nothing wrong is advertising with footnotes.
  • No scores, and no rating markup. These pages emit no Review, AggregateRating or reviewRating structured data of any kind. A number that exists only to be harvested by a search engine is not a measurement.
  • Our own mistakes are printed too. While measuring Sheet 03 we blocked a request with an over-broad pattern in our own probe and briefly believed the Library of Congress was rate-limiting us. It was not. The sheet reports what actually happened, including our error, because the property’s behaviour under that failure turned out to be the finding.

How the measurements were taken

Public GET requests to labs.llc, paced two to four seconds apart, read-only, no forms submitted and no authenticated endpoint touched. Screenshots were captured from the live pages in a headless browser at 1,400 pixels wide, with Google Analytics blocked at the network layer so that our own measuring did not appear in anybody’s traffic. Where a figure could be checked against the upstream the property reads, it was: the Library of Congress’s public API was queried directly, with a declared user agent, three times in total.

Data files the properties serve to every visitor were fetched and parsed by this desk to produce the counts and charts — the root zone register, the CPC manifest and its shards. Those counts, and the byte totals in the charts, are ours; where they agree with the property’s own published figures we say so, and where they go further than the property does we say that too.

What this site records

One counter, named here rather than left to a network tab: Google Analytics 4, property G-5LH2S5YD0V, this almanac’s own and no other site’s. It is the single third-party request any sheet on this domain makes. What it books is a page view with an approximate country, a device class and the referring address. No name is attached to any of it, because nowhere on this site is a name asked for — there is no form, no account and no comment box. The cookies it sets are its own. Block it and every figure on every sheet still renders: the sheets are static HTML and the charts are SVG drawn before publication.

What stood here before

This domain previously served a duplicate of an investor presentation from labs.llc: a self-canonicalising copy whose headline asset figures no longer matched the register it was copied from, illustrated with placeholder images pulled from a random-photo service. None of that content survives. It was replaced rather than corrected because a stale copy of somebody else’s page is not a publication, and because a site named open that carried invented illustrations had no business making the arguments on these sheets.

Corrections

If a figure on this site is wrong, it is wrong in a way you can demonstrate against the live property, and we want the demonstration. Corrections, disagreements and right-of-reply go to labs@labs.llc, which is the only address this site uses. Corrections are made on the sheet itself, with the original figure and the date of the change left visible.
